As law enforcer for 33 years, I learned that 90% of crime is committed by only 10% of the population. Now that statistic is seldom published although it is true no matter where in America you live.
What you do hear very often is that the majority of crime is done by repeat offenders. But what most people have trouble with is realizing just what a repeat offender is. It's not that difficult folks. A repeat offender is one that commits crimes over and over again. Is that too hard to understand?
Now, once you grasp that concept, ask yourself, "How can one person commit crimes over and over again?" Again, simple question - simple answer. It is only because we let them. We let them get out on bail while they await a trial often several years into the future. We let them serve light sentences after their conviction. We parole them early. We pardon some. We can't or won't convict others. We let them........
Nearly every day we hear about a child abduction where an ex-con is suspected. Now, let's review; Would that be a repeat offender? This morning's Fox New reported that six bodies were found inside a convicted rapist's home. Is he a repeat offender? And, a few months ago, cops rescued a person that was abducted as a child nearly 20 years ago by a convicted child molester. Wouldn't that be yet another example? Get it now?
So, if you got it, perhaps it might occur to you that Ninety Percent of crime could be prevented just by providing a speedy trial then keeping the convicted repeat offenders in jail, or better yet placed into an eternal sleep (that's a softer term for executing the bastards).
Now, that's what I'm talking about through the power and wisdom of the Thought Dock.
