An American Holiday

.
Next to the Fourth of July, Thanksgiving is my favorite American Holiday. Like the 4Th, it is a time for family, but with a touch more of formal. Instead of the burgers and beer, you get a real sit down meal for Thanksgiving.

Probably, you never even realized that other countries don't really have a Thanksgiving like we do. Some celebrate their independence, but none that I know of celebrate the pilgrimage of their country. Pretty weird if you think about it.

While the Day is about families, I am far separated from mine this year. So, we make do the best we can by serving dinner to other elders like us. And there are many in this Central Oregon Coast community. So ten of our best friend that no other place to go, will come here. And most of the conversations between us will likely be bragging about our individual families. Sharing photos and stories about life, bragging about how smart and successful our children turned out, and how they are passing it on to our grandchildren.

So, although we are apart, we are not. And, as my udda brudda returned to his home after his visit yesterday, I realized he's not the udda brudda any longer. He's my only brother now. You've not been forgotten, Danny.

Enjoy your Thanksgiving. A Thought from the Dock.
