Power of Unique

.
So, what exactly does unique mean? To me, it means different. The thing that makes one sunset stand apart from another. The subtle difference in a smile that convinces you that you're liked. Similar things, but different in some way that you'll never forget.

Over the course of a lifetime, we tend to more easily recall things that to us were unique. That one teacher, that one kiss, that one place, that one movie, that one car, that one Christian, that one song, that one disciplining, that you will never forget.

And man do I like unique things. I spend a good deal of time studying people, places, and things for their unique attributes, whether good or bad. And I've found what is unique to one, might not be so to another. And some people can not recognize anything that is unique.

My Mom always told me that the easiest way to survive in this world (which some one I know calls it a ghetto), is to blend in with everything, and everybody; to stay out of the spotlight so to say. Although today, I don't think that was her best advice, I do think it is the safest thing to do. Play it safe and that's just what I did.

So, I was never driven to be a star on sports teams, I just wanted to be good enough to play. I never wanted to be the brain at school, just good enough to pass. I never wanted to be the ace detective, just good enough to earn my pay check. But in some ways, I was unique whether I meant to be or not. And, I think that is true with everyone.

And people rise to power and fame because they make themselves unique. Michael Jackson, Abba Zabba, Elvis, John Wayne, and the Long Legged MacDaddy are all very unique and survived and thrived by being so different.

So, are you unique? Do you work to be unique? Wear different clothes, hairstyles, or put on an act to be unique. Or, are you the type that just tries to blend in?

I think that those that came to know me, will remember me, for being unique. Some people think I'm a bit weird or strange, but I'd like to be remembered for standing for what I believe. My faith, my ethics, my honesty, my integrity, my patriotism, and openness, I think are unique, especially so in today's society.

And the wisdom of the Thought Dock is unique.

  3. Sometimes they just use the word " unique " when you are over the edge, ie: Charles Manson was unique.
