What Time Is It?

.
Not very long ago (when you look at the big picture), someone realized the value of dating history and establishing time in a way that everyone could understand and have the same calendar. And for that, a common reference point needed to be determined. So, someone picked the birth of Christ as that reference point. With that, began the modern day calendar.

So the world had a time line to reference all things to. Events that happened before the birth of Christ were denoted in years, numbered sequentially. Like the year 73 BC (or BCE to some) meant 73 years before His birth. And the year 1952 AD, meant the number of years after His birth. A pretty simple thing to understand, and I think a pretty logical place to establish a time line for history.

But, it has got to be rough on the scientists because most of them don't even believe in Christ. But they set historical events and date the age of things, referencing it all to someone they won't admit exists. I think that's ironic. They try to justify their various forms of evolution and big bang theories, in their effort to disprove His very existence. Now, I'll be the first to admit that science is vital to all of us, but it has limitations. They can judge, with some degree of accuracy the world's events, but they can not predict the future with any degree of certainty. But , neither of those concepts are really important to me.

Now, I would have preferred that our calendar time line began, not with the birth of Jesus, but with His death. That, to me is what matters because that was the day everything changed. For, from that day on, we were to be held accountable for the things we do.

As a Christian, although I understand the importance of history, that what has happened really doesn't affect the way I live my life now. Likewise, I am not overly concerned with what might occur in the future, because I am secure in my life as a Christian. I am prepared whether or not I pass on now, or be there when the trumpets sound.

The same holds true with how I deal with people. I'm convinced that there are many, even in America, that do not know Christ. And I have sympathy for them and try to reach out to them as best I can. They can not be judged as I will be, because they have not known Him. But, for those that have learned about Christ, and have turned their heads away, there comes a point where I'll go on without them, and will have no sympathy for them when they are judged.

So, is knowing what time it is all that important? To some degree it is. You need to know what time to go to work, how long to water the garden, or to prepare for winter. But in today's world, time is the source of stress. For me, most of that stress was relieved when I came to know God.
