Take an Asparin and get some Bed Rest

.
While gathered around the campout fire this past week, I realized that Elma was a Canadian citizen who spent much of her adult life working in Oregon. She has since retired and is considering returning to her homeland.

Well, one of the things dissuading her return was health care. If you don't know, Canada has a government provided, and government run heath care system. And there are no doctors that work outside that system, meaning that you can not even pay your own money to see a doctor of your choice in Canada.

Elma said that there is a predetermined Average Life Expectancy (ALE) for health people in Canada, which fluctuates every year. When a medical procedure is recommended by a doctor, the government then calculates the number of years that remain before you reach the ALE, against the cost of the medical procedure. Since there is only a set amount of money available for medical care in the government's hopper, only those having the greatest longevity left before reaching the ALE age get to have the treatment. To make things even worse, if you are all ready in poor health, or if you are over the ALE age, there is little chance on receiving any costly procedure.

So, to put things in perspective, if the ALE is set at 70, and you have a pre-existing issue like diabetes, you're not likely to get a liver transplant regardless of your age. Or if you are diagnosed with prostrate cancer when you are 65 years old, you are not likely to get treatment. And if you are 72 years old when you fall and break your hip, you'll likely die soon thereafter. Just take some aspirin and get some bed rest. Only the young and healthy get the vast majority of medical services. Or those Canadians that can afford it, seek medical treatment in America.

Now, that's what Obummer wants for us. And although he first said that those that have private insurance, and are happy with it, can keep it, he more recently admitted that it would be likely that private insurance plans would be forced into bankruptcy within a few years, forcing us to join his plan.

Do you think Elma will return? A very, very, scary time at the Thought Dock.

  1. i think emma should go home NOW. she has been here making the american dollar all these years, taking a job from one of our very own. i can assure you she wasn't working in the fields! is she even here legally? i doubt her reason for not going home is the lack of health care, it is more like she doesn't want her american retirement to be taxed at 45% to pay for that lousy health care system. maybe if she went home and paid her taxes it would make her system better.... but no, she will stay here and enjoy the american life, never becoming a citizen, never committing her loyalty to the greatest nation on earth.
it is not only the ones from south of the border that need to be watched. i am sure she shops a walmart. she needs to go home so that when we do switch over to the obummer plan, we can afford to have longer ALE because there will be one less to support. ultimately im sure that foreigner will be occupying american soil when she is laid to rest....

oh it is too early in the day for this....i need to go find my zanax samples and chill

  2. okay..you gotta know this. i had that post all written out and somehow closed out of blogger and lost what i had written. of course,it was far better than the above post. much better. anyways...after having posted the above blog i went to make coffee. i am back to apologize now for the above post...it really is mean spirited...and pretty much like what you all complain about day in and day out..... it is awful that there is the pervasive thought 'out there' is that other people get in the way of our benefits....that we certainly are not simply "entitled" to, but rather "earned".

i just wanted to let you know...after i posted my comment...i poured 5 cups of water into the coffee filter rather than the water well of the coffee maker.

i really do need to go find some zanax

  4. You've missed the point again Sista! The post was not about Elma, but rather the health care system in Canada. BTW, Elma has been here on a Visa, worked, paid taxes, and contributed to America all these years, unlike the illegals in your neighborhood. And, when I refer to someone by name in my blog, it should tell you that the person might be a friend, Follower, or reader. Re-read yesterday's post, please.

  5. I hate Wal-Mart as much as anyone else. Rather, the people who shop there. Did you ever notice EVERYONE in that store looks like a swamp-thing?

Just so I understand, is it when someone is a friend, follower or reader that we can't talk about them negatively? We can only talk poorly or make derogative remarks about the others?

This thought-dock stuff is complicated! Or is it that all the rules contradict themselves...

    hmmmmm

  6. aap-It seems the Thought Dock rules are too complicated for you. Read yesterday's rules again. I'll say it once more, and I've told you before, comments to a posting's subject matter are welcome. You may respond to another's comment as well. But any comment directed to the Author, or at a specific commenter, that is demeaning and meant to offend, will be moderated. The rules are in place to protect Followers such as you that seem to get hammered often. Get it?

  8. I thought the comments were supposed to refer to the subject....How did Walmart come into this conversation, I think the little one needs to ask mama for a pill of zanax. (POP POP....POP)
If you think health care is expensive now, hang on to your wallets because you ain't seen nothing yet.
    Good point Grandpa-D

  9. my comment was NOT meant to offend, not your friends/followers or even you, grandpa d.
I am sorry, eLma for mis-spelling your name...i hate when that happens. never call me gloria.
it is a well-known fact that canadians come over the border to shop at walmart. but take note that they will not travel to the walmarts in so. california ~ and it isn't because of distance.
just because anyone (legal or otherwise) EARNS a living does not make them deserving of any "benefits" and or other "entitlements".
there are just as many amazing struggles of illegal immigrants trying make a living for their families as there are of all the rest of us; they just don't make it to the Thought Dock or onto Oprah.
these are by far large issues to be debated and a perfect solution will be next to impossible to find. it certainly won't happen if we continue to keep our minds shut instead of our mouths.

  10. It's Alma not Elma, It's Elvis not Alvis

  11. Sista, the difference is that the ILLEGAL ALIEN comes to this country without documentation, takes a job paying cash under the table, does not pay taxes, doesn't learn English, gets free medical without a co-pay, swamps our school system with the children he sires, fills our jails, drives without a license or insurance, wrecks my car and splits the scene causing my rates to go up,often collects welfare fradulently, joins gangs, mates with our daughters, and sends whatever money he has left across the border. Elma has done nothing of that and has earned whatever she has.

  12. mates?

there are legals that get free medical w/o co-pay...they cheat just like the illegals. been there, prosecuted that.

the rest can be applied to legals also. whether any of them work or not is a different story. none the less, i stand on what i said, just because one works does not make one "deserving".

and quite frankly, if Elma or Alma or Emma doesn't agree with that, she is as wrong as you all are.

    next blog please.
