Just Hangin' at the Beach

.
Travelling south along the coast from the big cities took us to our next stop, Virginia Beach, VA.  Away from the hustle and bustle of places choked with people and traffic.  We left the lifestyle we once were a part of in SoCal.  Scurrying around like ants, too busy to exchange a smile of a friendly "hello," as if there was anyone else who even cared.  Busy making money.  Rushing around just to "Punch the Ticket."  I'm so glad that I'm not a part of that anymore.

Virginia Beach is more than that.  East of the highway, are swank hotels for miles along the beach.  Some 15 stories high, but leaving a few feet of access between to allow the locals and others (like us) access to the sand.

Across the road are plush golf courses and million dollar homes.  Seemingly a paradise to many.  Shopping centers, souvenir shops, and eateries swamp the swamps west of the highway in between the golf courses.

But the people seemed different here.  Most are tourists like me.  But removed from their life style, they seem to become friendly, happy, and relaxed.  Maybe the free flowing Mai Tais help a bit there.

I'm brown now like I was when I lived in the sunshine of SoCal.  I like that but wouldn't trade it for our Northwest Coastal town and friends.
