In Those Days I was a cop in Los Angeles. Yeah, over 30 years of pounding the beat in a City of 5-Million. During the place and time where Adam-12 and Police Story were the talk of the country. From the poverty of Watts to the wealth of Beverly Hills. I was there and I will never forget.
And many that I meet today can't wait to ask, "What was it like?" or "Have you ever....?" And to most of their questions I think to myself, "Yeah, I've been there!" But seldom do I tell the stories that they like to hear, and talk mostly in generality.
And so it will be today. I've been shot at, but never shot anyone. I've kicked some ass, but never had my ass kicked. I've chased fleeing cars but have never been chased. I've ran toward the sound of an explosion while everyone else was running away. I've stood face to face with an angry mob, but never was a part of a mob. And I've cradled some, but have not been cradled. I have recognized heroes, but I am not a hero myself. Surely I have seen more than most, and I have learned from what I have seen.
Not to brag, but to put things in perspective, as a conservative estimate, I have arrested or cited about 10-Thousand people in during my time as a cop, not to mention the untold number of the ones that should have been arrested. And, I've encountered hundreds of thousands of people that were victims, witnesses, and the like. And, a good portion (thankfully) of all the people I've encountered were religious.
From my perspective, most people that are religion, also have have ethics, values and morals. They are the foundation of America. And, I say this because they tend to govern themselves, and peacefully resolve their disputes. That is essential in a civilized world. For with out it, chaos thrives.
Of the thousands of people that I've arrested, only a few handfuls were religious. I find that incredible. Now although I follow a specific religious doctrine, I'm talking about religion in general. Christians, Jews, Hindus, Buddhists, Mormons, and all the rest. EXCEPT ... Muslims.
ALL Muslims.....(at least the ones I've encountered as a cop).
I have encountered plenty of Muslims. They seem to be the ones that generally will not peacefully coexist with anyone that has a different belief. I have noticed that their morals and ethics are lacking when compared to the general American population. They are difficult to reason with and more often than not, are intolerant of anything other than their way. Hot tempers (even more than Italians), more fraud, corruption, theft, cheating, and violence is rampant in their culture. And they contribute little to the American culture. Surprised? It's against their doctrine.
Well, I know this was not the "Cop Story" you were expecting, but it is what I've seen. And, it is what it is.
Paddle your own kayak and have a great day!
